toyota corolla 2005 hatch ascent

Hello to all, I just purchased a 05 corolla for the mrs, after driving the car for a couple of days i noticed that the temp gauge is siting about 2 bars higher then half way,but does not go higher. Also she tells me that the car idles high at cold start reving at about 2500rpm, when warm car sits at the 1000rpm mark.

please can anyone help me with this matter, is it

Owning the conquest in the same year and modle as you I can tell you this is not normal, and you should take it in to be serviced.
