With the recent drop in the price of Unleaded fuel, I'm left wondering why Autogas still remains at the hefty price of 78c a Litre here locally! I'm pretty sure most regions outside of the capital cities will be paying about the same price - why?

To put it bluntly, we pay world parity prices for naturally occuring gases from our own country. In 1991 Australia deregulated the wholesale price of LPG in Australia. Prices now reflect the world market price which is set by Saudi Arabia who is the largest producer of LPG.

So, the Arab countries pay near nothing for their petrol and gas while we who produce more LPG than we can use pay the export price - as usual we pay through the nose to the American oil giants
